"Transnational Crime and Violence" Roundtable Discussion

Transnational Crime and Violence Roundtable Discussion In a roundtable format before eight doctoral students, Dr. Robert Mandel (right), Professor of International Affairs, Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon and Dr. Phil Williams (left) of GSPIA (on leave this semester at the Army War College) held a discussion on "Transnational Crime and Violence" on October 10, 2008. Dr. Mandel and Dr. Williams discussed the five major mafia families of organized crime around the world and their effect on the world-wide war on terrorism, specifically in Iraq and Iran. Both Williams and Mandel gave sound advice to the students about their research topics and offered to help them in their future research. Professor Williams met with each student individually following the roundtable discussion. Professor Goldstein offered support and will help coordinate a conference on organized crime which is projected for next semester.

The Ridgway Center wishes to thank both professors for their time and effort and is looking forward to meeting with them again in the near future.
